The goal of The Camp Fire Restoration Project is to support landowners and private and public agencies in environmental and community restoration in the areas affected by the devastating Camp Fire in Butte County, California.

On this episode Matthew shares how he was a DJ and Rapper from the East Bay that was looking for a change. He found himself by moving to Berry Creek California where he fell in love with nature. When a freind gave hime a book called The One Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka.

This was his introduction in natural farming Masanobu call it “lazy mans technique”. Learning the natural cycles of nature. This eventually led him to find Permaculture. He fell in love with permaculture, and as luck would have it he ended up working with some world leaders in permaculture, Dr. Elaine  Ingham and Penny Livingston.

Matthew shares his journey through permaculture, the roots of how permaculture got started and who the fathers of permaculture are. (David Holmgren and Bill Mollison) [side note: he suggests the one book you need is  the Permaculture Designers Manuel] Matthew shares how his passion has turned into one business after another. Creating a “town center” in Oroville, running a farmers market, a farm to fork food truck, co-op-abox.

Part 2

Matthew finishes up how he took over the farmers market in Oroville and turned into “Co-Op-a-box” Micro local super fresh produce delivered the same day it’s picked.

From there Matthew explains how the Camp Fire directly effected him and his family. Spurring him into action to help the people and the environment post fire. Thus the Camp Fire Restoration Project was formed.

They connected with The Friends of Butte Creek to start getting wattles in place to help stop the toxic run off. 10,000 plus burnt structures and a heavy winter lead to lots of toxins entering our water ways.

Matthew using his network of Permaculturist was able to link up with the Ecosystems Restoration Camp Group to become the first ecosystem camp site in United States. With a Unique disaster relief model. Matthew really shows how taking action and connecting with his community has made a huge impact in the recovery effort post fire. Don’t miss this episode much more to come!
