MCOTU Episode 20

Yaba Baker-Just Like me outreach

Yaba Baker grew up in a neighborhood where 9 of his friends and classmates were murdered before he was 21 years old. Many of those who weren’t murdered made some really poor decisions that resulted in them going to prison.  Yaba made different decisions and he went on to Hampton University. The difference? His mom instilled in him a process of critical thinking that his friends were lacking.

Since 1996 Yaba has been funding  workshops and programs out of his own pocket. In order for this program to reach the millions of at-risk teens that need it, he needs some help. He assembled a team of some of the most talented and passionate people in the country to assist in changing the lives of our youth. Our goal is to take this 10-week program nationwide to cities like Chicago, Baltimore, etc. so every child that is considered at-risk can have the opportunity to gain the tools mentally to think long term and make decisions that lead to a better life. He is  starting off the mission to take this program national with the first step, to change the lives of 480 students in the Washington, DC area.
